The Story of Fortunatus
A centuries-old allegory, the tale of Fortunatus follows the life of a young man who was granted one of six virtues by Lady Fortune – wisdom, riches, strength, health, beauty or long life. Hastily choosing riches, he received from her a purse of riches that would continually replenish as often as he drew from it. The story recounts his worldly adventures with the purse, as well as the exploits and failures of his sons who inherited it. More than just a cautionary tale warning against overzealous greed the story of Fortunatus teaches us the value and significance of wisdom – both in its purest sense and with regard to protecting and cultivating abundant riches. Wisdom and reason are fundamental elements if one wishes to sensibly capitalize on the multitude of ever changing market opportunities.
